(REVIEW) Midnight Spell by Bath & Body Works

This year is no exception as I suspected that Bath & Body Works would not release some type of dark gourmand body care for the Halloween. I mean just based off of everything that they released so far by the beginning of this year, they were mostly Fruity, Floral, Grown Up scents, they are really serving Fruity/Floral Extravaganza.. They just keep releasing scents that literally nobody was asking for, like, what happened to bakeshop? Even though we did get a couple of pound cakes, it’s just not enough for me! And if you know me, you know that I lean towards more of that bakery, cafe, pumpkin spice, everything sweet, “eat me up” gourmand fragrances.

And I actually thought that this year’s Bath & Body Works Halloween collection was going to be let down, but I was proven wrong! As soon as I saw POPSUGAR posted a sneak peek of the new Halloween Body Care I was immediately sold just by the packaging alone and my goth heart was screaming! I don’t really care if they don’t smell like something fresh out of the oven, the packaging is what I’m here for! It’s giving regal realness, it’s giving gothcore!

Bath & Body Works Midnight Spell is a new fragrance that is part of this year’s Halloween Collection, consisting of 2 other fragrances (Everlasting Magic and Vampire Blood). It comes in the form of Fine Fragrance Mist, Shower Gel, Body Cream, and the Shimmer Fizz Body Lotion which is now a staple every Halloween!

Midnight Spell is described as having an enchanted walk in the woods, with notes of Mystic Air, Moonlit Woods, and Crystal Amber. What exactly does Mystic Air smell like? Let’s get on with the review then!

  1. Ofcourse, the first item is going to be the Fine Fragrance Mist, and to me this smells warm and airy on initial sprays, it’s probably the Mystic Air, and they really did a great job in capturing that sensation like you’re walking into an enchanted woods in the middle of the night kind of smell. But the most prominent note that I’m picking up from the mist is the Crystal Amber, It has the same warm, ambery, and sophisticated smell that Midnight Amber Glow has, so if you like Midnight Amber Glow, for sure you will like Midnight Spell hence they both have the word "Midnight", do you get it? The smell is also really cozy for me, and no, it doesn’t smell colone-ish as what everyone says. While it does have a slightly woody smell, it’s not something that will throw you off, the woody note in this makes it more like a unisex scent and I have to say that people's misconception about Midnight Spell is that it smells fresh, NO, it's NOT fresh, the fitting word would be WARM, because it smells warm and sophisticated.

  1. The next variant which is the Shower Gel, it’s just the same as the mist, and I’m glad that it is, unlike other fragrances where the mist smells different than the other or the other variant has a more prominent note, and one way or the other. Almost every shower gel that I tried smelled different where one fragrance note is prominent than the mist,  but Midnight Spell’s shower gel stayed true to how the mist smelled. And it is becoming one of my favorites!

  1. And lastly, the fun form, the Shimmer Fizz Body Lotion, is cold and bubbly when you pump the contents on your skin, it’s super fizzy upon rubbing and it sounds like you are doing ASMR. It still smells amazing as the mist, and even though the sparkle really does not show up on camera, it does shimmer when you are actually staring at it on your skin!

Sillage and projection is amazing, it stays for long periods of hours on my skin and clothes, in fact, the scent can stay overnight!

For layering combinations, here are my picks:

  • B&BW Midnight Amber Glow

  • VS Star Smoked Amber

Midnight Spell is currently Trending so if you are interested in having it in your collection, you can still get the entire collection from Bath & Body Works!
